North East coal mines help power the green revolution

ITV takes a look at how Heat Networks Investment Project (HNIP) funding will help power the green revolution in the North East.

Gateshead Council and Durham County Council were awarded £5.9 million and £3.8 million respectively for the development of two heat networks which utilise mine water energy to heat thousands of homes. It’s incredible that old coal mines are a source of geothermal energy, new jobs, and regeneration in the North East.

“The use of our legacy mine-workings to provide clean, affordable and perpetually renewing heat should be a source of great national pride.” Comments Ken Hunnisett, Project Director at Triple Point Heat Networks Investment Management.
